Their latest album, ‘We've Been Everywhere’, serves as a testament to their global adventures and musical evolution, produced by Grammy® Award-winning Rudy Perez. The album's themes of resilience, adventure, and connection resonate deeply, capturing the band's unique blend of Americana, country, rock, and blues. From their early days busking in San Francisco to performing in Tunisia, their journey is one of passion and dedication.
Wonderful to chat with you today, the band have such a fascinating story. When did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“Music has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember. I started singing at five, and Don was already playing guitar at six. Growing up in Phoenix, I was immersed in a mix of country storytelling and the rich, vibrant sounds of Mariachi music. At 17, I moved to San Francisco and started busking on Fisherman’s Wharf between college classes. From there, my journey led me to Southern California, where my band was picked up by a large music agency and sent on the road across the U.S. and Canada.”
“I met my partner and husband, Don Ortiz, along the way, and our undeniable musical chemistry led us to form the Dina Preston Band. Now based in Phoenix, Arizona, we’ve performed in 44 countries, sharing our passion for music with diverse audiences worldwide. Our inspiration comes from a lifelong dedication to our music and the incredible global experiences that have shaped our sound.”
Can you tell us a bit about the new album and what it means to you?
“The band's album, ‘We’ve Been Everywhere’, is a reflection of our journey performing in 44 countries and the incredible experiences we've had along the way. Produced by Grammy® Award-winning producer Rudy Perez and team, it captures the energy, passion, and grit of our travels. Two of the singles, Give My Broken Heart a Break and Hard-Working Man, recently charted on Apple’s Country Music Charts, which was a huge milestone for us. This album is a celebration of the road, the fans, and the stories we've collected.”
Are there any artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you when writing the release?
“Writing happens everywhere—from the road to the studio and even in the quiet moments before a show. Traveling to different countries and experiencing diverse cultures has deeply influenced our songwriting, which shapes our sound. It's the central theme of our album, ‘We’ve Been Everywhere’, which is about our musical journey up until now.”
What was your songwriting process for the release? How did it all come together?
“Each song starts with a story—something we’ve lived, seen, or felt. We work collaboratively with other songwriters, building on ideas that come from our experiences. We’ve been writing and recording for years. It’s just what we do. We jumped at the chance to work with Rudy Perez and his team; they were incredible; helping us refine our sound and bring out the best in our music.”
How would you describe the sound on the album? Has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“Our sound is high-energy Americana blended with country, rock and blues. Over the years, our style has evolved from classic country to fusion-filled storytelling. We’ve Been Everywhere leans into this evolution, embracing both traditional and modern sounds- staying true to our Southwestern roots.”
Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey on the album? Is there a moment in the release that really captures that idea?
“The heart of the album is about resilience, adventure, and connection. Songs like Hard Working Man highlight the determination and grit of everyday heroes, while Give My Broken Heart a Break speaks to the universal experience of heartache and moving forward. The album, as a whole, captures the journey of life. We hope our songs inspire people to follow their dreams, embrace adventure, cherish their loved ones, and never give up. We would love our music to serve as a soundtrack for those moments of faith, courage, and discovery in people’s lives.”
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist? Where do you see yourself in the next few years, both musically and personally?
“We want to continue growing our audience and bringing our music to even more people. We also hope to inspire the next generation of artists with our experiences. Personally, we’re always looking for new adventures—whether that’s traveling to new countries or connecting with fans in unexpected places or collaborating with new people in the industry.”
What's next after this release? Do you have any new releases or shows on the horizon?
“Yes! We’re gearing up to release a new single this summer, which we’re excited about. On top of that, we have upcoming shows in the works. We’re always looking for new opportunities to bring our music to fresh audiences.”
What sort of reception have you had to your latest release? Are there any memorable moments that stand out?
“The response has been incredible. ‘Seeing Hard Working Man’ land at #47 and ‘Give My Broken Heart a Break’ at #98 on Apple Music’s Country Charts was a huge moment for us. Another standout was our performance in Tunisia, where the audience sang along with us, even when the production cut out due to rain. Those moments remind us why we do what we do.
Is there anything you would like to say to our audience? How can they connect with you and help support you?
“Thank you for being part of our journey! Your energy, love, and enthusiasm mean the world to us.
