We Chat With Brisbane's Jackson Broom About His New Single And Recent Launch Show

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Jackson Broom is a singer-songwriter making waves with his heartfelt and evocative music. His latest single, 'Minute', is a testament to his growth as an artist, showcasing his ability to capture the complexities of human emotion in a way that resonates with listeners.

Since his debut release, 'Awkward Emotions', penned during his high school years, Jackson has been consistently honing his craft, pouring his heart and soul into every track. With a string of new releases on the horizon, Jackson is poised to become a prominent voice in the singer-songwriter scene. In this interview, we delve into the inspiration behind 'Minute', explore his creative process, and discuss his aspirations for the future.

Hey Jackson, It’s so great to be able to catch up with you, thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions. You’ve just released your new single, ‘Minute’, what kind of reception have you had from the track?

"Thank you so much for having me! The reception for Minute has been incredible so far. I’ve got an amazing community of support around me and the hype around my single release has been so much better than I expected. This single marks the start of a chain of singles that will be released over the next 12 months and I’m so excited for future singles."

How did ‘Minute’ come together? What was the inspiration behind the single

"'Minute' is one of those songs that took time to fully develop into what it is today.  wrote the song just over two years ago and the song was about a breakup that I was going through at the time. It’s written from the perspective of the person being broken up with and the thoughts/emotions they are going through at that exact moment. I sat on this song for a while, and it wasn’t until I went through another breakup earlier this year that I revisited this single."

What was the recording process for the new single like?

"After revisiting the single I knew there was room for change in the song to make it more palatable and different from the songs I had written previously. I took the song to my producer Eliot Argus, and we did an initial demo for the song and then sat on it for a couple of weeks before we would finally reach a stage where we were happy with the vision of the song. We then recorded the song over a couple of days, getting Harry Schneider in on the drums. I found it made a huge difference getting his input on the track."

The new single has a fairly simple cover art, was there an inspiration or meaning behind it?

"The cover art is simple however it sets the tone for the lyrics in the song. The song’s lyrics are really quite melancholic in nature and they run a lot deeper than what most people might initially think."

"The artwork pictures a bed in an almost empty room – the bed being a part of the lyrics in the chorus 'One more minute, in this bed' as this is where the story is taking place in the song. The lyrics are quite moody and the atmosphere of the cover art certainly gets that point across."

You recently had your single launch party at The Cave Inn with Topaz Rose and Idle Minds. How did it go?

'The single launch was so much more successful than I could’ve asked for. Topaz Rose and the Idle Minds killed it and were very well received by the audience."

"The single launch was a great way for people to support not only myself but also the opening acts. Everyone seemed to have a great time and it was just a fun night of good music and great people."

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as a singer-songwriter? Where do you see yourself in the next few years, both musically and personally?

"I would love to release more and more music in quicker succession – It was a 2-year release gap between my first EP and my latest single, so I want to work on releasing music more often and working on the quality of the music as well. As far as my music career goes, I want to play live as often as possible and keep networking with other musicians in the world. I have a passion for playing live music and there’s just something different about connecting with an audience and sharing that live experience."

"I want to continue using music as an emotional outlet, because music means a lot more to me than just the notes I’m playing, and it helps me out a lot personally too."

Is there anything you would like to say to our audience?

"Go listen to 'Minute' and stay tuned on my social media accounts because there is more great music coming out soon!"
