Tokyo-based, Sydney-born singer/songwriter Joey Sachi has joined forces with producer AKINAT for her latest release, '7 Seconds'. This euphoric electronic-pop track delves into the depths of enduring love, drawing inspiration from the poignant life story of British classical musician Clive Wearing.
Sachi, who has blossomed creatively since relocating to Tokyo, has collaborated with a variety of exciting artists and producers in Japan's vibrant music scene. Her sound, influenced by the likes of Jamie xx, Mount Kimbie, and Sabrina Claudio, is constantly evolving, embracing new styles and textures. '7 Seconds' exemplifies this adventurous spirit, showcasing Sachi's captivating vocal modulation and dynamic melodies.
AKINAT, a fellow Tokyo resident with Australian roots, brings his impressive production skills to the track. Known for his technical prowess and unconventional harmonic language, AKINAT has crafted a crisp, uplifting instrumental that perfectly complements Sachi's soaring vocals. His influences, including Four Tet and Jon Hopkins, shine through in the track's sophisticated electronic soundscape.
The duo's creative process involved drawing inspiration from Fleetwood Mac's iconic track 'Dreams'. They aimed to capture a similar simplicity in the beat and layers while channelling Stevie Nicks' melodic ingenuity in the vocal line.
Music has been an integral part of Sachi's life since childhood. Her parents, one of whom was a classical musician, nurtured her musical talents, leading her to study classical music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. This background adds another layer of depth to '7 Seconds', which was inspired by the life of Clive Wearing, a renowned conductor, tenor, and pianist who tragically suffered from retrograde amnesia.
Sachi explains the song's underlying theme; "Clive Wearing's story is one of profound love and resilience in the face of devastating memory loss. Despite his condition, his wife Deborah remained a constant source of comfort and connection. '7 Seconds' explores the beauty of this enduring love, a love that transcends life's challenges."
Since her debut single, 'If I Ask' in 2021, Sachi has steadily gained recognition both locally and internationally. Her music has graced the airwaves of Australian radio stations like 4ZZZ, 2SER, and 2RRR, and garnered praise from publications such as Happy Mag, Backseat Mafia, and AAA Backstage. Her collaboration with Japanese artist STAR GUiTAR on 'One Way' in 2023 further expanded her reach, securing spots on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists in Japan. With '7 Seconds', Sachi continues to demonstrate her artistic growth and captivating storytelling.
