Brisbane's own Nick Cunningham, the indie-folk artist known for his heartfelt and intimate songwriting, is back with a brand new single, 'With You'. This latest offering follows Cunningham's 2024 EP 'No Flowers, No Rain', which saw him further refine his distinctive sound.
Fans have been following Cunningham's journey since his 2015 debut EP Letters, and have witnessed the evolution of his artistry across a string of releases. His music offers listeners a unique window into his world, showcasing his keen observations and diverse influences.
'With You' captures the essence of a "coastal road trip", drawing inspiration from artists like The Lumineers, Ziggy Alberts, and The Dreggs. The song's origins are as romantic as its sound. "I wrote the finger-picked guitar riff to this song in a hotel room in Adelaide the morning after meeting my now partner," Cunningham reveals. "We met while we were performing at an event in Adelaide of all places, and happened to live two suburbs apart in Brisbane. We had this trip away to the coast after a few dates and the lyrics really came from that."
Recorded at Studio Byron, 'With You' has a stripped-back feel that marks a departure from Cunningham's usual approach. Instead of bringing in a full band, he opted for a more intimate recording process, which brings a fresh energy to the track.
Cunningham's knack for crafting compelling narratives and weaving them into his music has earned him spots at major festivals like Splendour in the Grass and Bluesfest Byron Bay. He's also shared the stage with renowned artists such as Sons of the East and Kim Churchill.
