lucidbloom Reveal Their Lushly Layered And Cataclysmic Debut EP 'Calamity'

Hailing from the Blue Mountains, femme-fronted indie dream pop ensemble lucidbloom unveils their debut EP, 'Calamity', a titanic collection that follows the release of their infectious and apocalyptic lead single, 'Signals in the Skies'.

Renowned for their mesmerizing live performances and rich sonic landscapes, lucidbloom creates an immersive experience that blends swirling melodies with vibrant hues and ethereal atmospheres. Submerged in light and billowing smoke, they craft a hypnotic live spectacle, propelled by a dynamic and cinematic sound.

Drawing from influences spanning dark electronic pop, 90s shoegaze, and contemporary acapella, the band dives into themes of existential uncertainty, collective consciousness, and the surrealism of contemporary life. 'Calamity' is a hauntingly beautiful and organic debut, showcasing their captivating melodies, melancholic arrangements, and mastery of tension.

From the driving opening track 'Mutual Gravity' to the eerie finale "Among the Pines," a mountainous sonic landscape unfurls through unexpected turns and extended cinematic outros. 'Signals in the Skies', released April 12, is the contagious feature single, showcasing the band's vivid lyricism and compelling pop sensibility.

The music video for 'Signals in the Skies' takes viewers on a visual journey through a post-civilization landscape, contrasting serene natural backdrops with stark industrial settings. Follow-up single 'Mutual Gravity', released with the EP on May 17, offers a danceable pulse and driving tension, flexing the band’s apocalyptic dream pop style.

Lyricist Katrina Noorbergen describes 'Calamity' as a reflection of the chaos of modern life; "The EP is a collection of songs that grapple with the unease of our current times...but from within a lucid dream state. There’s a lot of melancholy and darkness embedded in the lyricism, but we’re still bringing moments of light to the forefront."

Inspired by experiences during times of crisis, including wildfires, floods, and impending calamity, lucidbloom infuses its debut release with urgency and introspection. The signature brooding vocal harmonies and interweaving voices of the two frontwomen add depth and texture, blending with delayed guitars, pulsing bass, percussive drums, and atmospheric synth sounds.

To celebrate the release, lucidbloom are playing a launch show at Oxford Art Factory's Gallery Bar on May 30th. Tickets are available now.
