Multi-platinum-selling artist Tom Odell shares his highly anticipated new album 'Black Friday'

Multi-platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and producer Tom Odell has shared his highly anticipated new album 'Black Friday', out now via UROK / Virgin Music Group.

'Black Friday' brings his exquisitely candid lyricism to a lived-in meditation of the infinite complexity of love and relationships. It features previously released singles including the ever-growing hit title track ‘Black Friday’ that has already accumulated over 80 million streams and counting and continues to see phenomenal success on TikTok with fan content generating over 1 billion interactions on the platform. Alongside the album’s previously released title track, it also features the subtly intense ‘The End’, ‘Somebody Else’, ‘Answer Phone’ and more.

Acclaimed for his fervent live performances, Tom has performed ‘Black Friday’ live recently; watch the stunning performance of ‘Black Friday' for Mahogany Session, on The Graham Norton Show, and on Late Night With Seth Meyers. In a departure from the piano-driven minimalism of 'Best Day Of My Life' (his 2022 UK Top 10 and Ivor Novello nominated LP), 'Black Friday' presents a selection of songs written and extemporaneously performed on a nearly-100-year-old guitar in Tom’s East London studio where the act of creating such an immersive body of work involved balancing his bracing honesty with a certain element of poetic freedom.

The stunning eloquence and potent emotionality of his songwriting shine. Discussing his songwriting approach, Tom says, “Over the last few years, I’ve focused on removing a lot of the filters from the creative process and making it a mantra to be as real as possible in my lyrics. It feels so much more inspiring and stimulating to say something that might make me slightly uncomfortable, to the point where there’s a degree of almost voyeuristic transparency in what I’m revealing.”

He continues, “I wanted to open myself up and bring a real degree of vulnerability to these songs, but by no means was there an attempt to create a sort of musical diary entry. The idea of making something purely autobiographical seems quite boring to me; I need there to be much more creativity and imagination involved. At the same time, I ended up exploring how I felt about things that I’d never really thought about before, and discovering things about myself that I might not have learned otherwise. It was a very exhausting and intense process, but ultimately I feel like that’s the best place for me to be as an artist. Instead of putting out the same ideas, I want to always take risks and try to say something new.”

BRIT and Ivor Novello Award winner Tom Odell has released five studio albums that have earned him over 28 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 4 billion career streams, and a social media reach of 8 million across all platforms. In 2022 his previously released track, ‘Another Love’ racked up over two billion streams and landed in the Top 40 most streamed songs of all time on Spotify.
