West Australia’s Any Girl has released her debut album ‘It’s A Shame The World Is Ending Cause I’m Ready To Live Now’. A culmination of over two years of vision, writing, recording, and work for Any Girl, the album is a compelling and infectious indie-pop masterpiece.
Having worked as professional musician for more than 15 years Any Girl has had deals with Mad Decent, Ultra Music, and Sony Publishing, as well as featuring for producers such as Zed Dead, Metrik, and Shockone, however ‘It’s A Shame The World Is Ending Cause I’m Ready To Live Now’ marks her first entirely independent release.
Kick starting the record with ‘Too Far Gone’, the pulsating back-beat driven track is a testament to Any Girl’s songwriting skills and her ability to fuse nostalgia and modernity. ‘Unbreakable’ would not be out of place in a mid-2000s pop legends discography (think Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson). ‘Talk About You’, ‘Into The Black’ and ‘Underachiever’ are also stand out highlights, showcasing Any Girl’s ability to write hooky yet emotive synth-pop influenced tracks.
Speaking openly, Any Girl shared, “This album is a collection of songs written during my struggle with depression, chronic illness and undiagnosed ADHD. I spent 2 years rarely leaving the house, sitting on a pile of demos, and essentially burying my head in the sand. Then when COVID happened, I got a day job to make ends meet and at times it felt easier to live a normal 9-5 than to deal with the mental pressures of independent artistry."
She continued, "When I got diagnosed with ADHD about a year ago, my mental struggles all started to make sense. With medication and a better understanding of how my brain works, I was finally able to finish the album and launch Any Girl. That’s where the album name came from. “It’s a Shame The World Is Ending Cause I’m Ready To Live Now” is my way of processing my late ADHD diagnosis, and launching a brand new project in a really uncertain music industry post-covid.”
