REED. Releases Heartfelt Single 'Murimuri Aroha', A New Chapter in Te Reo Māori Music

Tāmaki Makaurau-based musician REED. has unveiled his latest single, 'Murimuri Aroha', marking a significant milestone as his first song entirely in Te Reo Māori. This soulful waiata, accompanied by a visually stunning music video directed by Luke Penny, delves into the raw emotions of a fading relationship, showcasing REED.'s evolution as an artist.

Known for his playful pop sound infused with modern soul and R&B, REED. has been making waves in the Aotearoa music scene since 2019. With his debut EP 'She's A Mixtape' solidifying his position as an emerging talent, 'Murimuri Aroha' represents a new chapter in his musical journey.

The song, born out of a 2023 APRA AMCOS' Te Reo Māori Song Hubs, was crafted with a talented team including Mātanga Reo Dr Hona Black, who assisted REED. with the Te Reo Māori lyrics. "It was crazy to see how much information and detail you can fit into one sentence," REED. reflects. "Looking back, I don’t feel that using English would have been possible. Without Dr Hona Black, 'Murimuri Aroha' would’ve just been another sad break-up song."

The accompanying music video, shot by Luke Penney, brings the song's themes to life in a visually captivating way. REED. describes the experience of filming in a moving caravan as "adrenaline pumping," adding to the song's emotional intensity.

'Murimuri Aroha' has resonated with audiences and critics alike, with praise for its heartfelt lyrics, soulful melodies, and the unique blend of traditional and modern sounds. The song's release is a testament to REED.'s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new creative avenues.

As REED. himself puts it, "'Murimuri Aroha' is by far the most effort I have ever put into a song. I’ve always wanted to create a music video and for it to be in full Reo Māori, with the song sounding that good and the video looking that great, I am super proud of myself and everyone who has played their part."

With 'Murimuri Aroha', REED. not only shares a personal story of love and loss but also contributes to the growing landscape of contemporary Te Reo Māori music. This heartfelt single is a testament to his artistry and a promising glimpse into his future endeavours.
