Rising Star Anna Thoresen Shares Her Intoxicating New Single 'Mary Jane'

Anna Thoresen, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter from New Jersey, has just released her latest single, 'Mary Jane', and it’s already making waves in the indie music scene. Now based in Los Angeles, Thoresen has been carving out a niche for herself with her distinctive pop sound and DIY approach to music production.

Thoresen first caught the attention of music lovers with her debut single, 'i think this is love?' which she released last year. Since then, she has been steadily building a reputation for her authentic and heartfelt songwriting, as well as her ability to produce and record her own tracks. Her new release, "Mary Jane," continues to showcase her talents and marks another significant step in her musical journey.

'Mary Jane' is a grooving pop track with subtle R&B influences, featuring Thoresen's smooth vocals gliding effortlessly over a laid-back melody. The song was entirely written, recorded, and produced by Thoresen in her bedroom in LA, a testament to her hands-on approach and dedication to her craft. "I wrote, recorded, and produced this song all on my own, and I'm very proud of how it turned out," she shared.

The song, while immediately catchy, carries a deeper message. "I've always wanted to write a song that was somewhat of an homage to my love of marijuana," Thoresen explained. "One day, I was high and messing around on Logic and happened to come up with the beat. I recorded and wrote the entire rest of the song while I was high too, just to add that special touch."

However, 'Mary Jane' is more than just a tribute to cannabis; it delves into Thoresen’s complex relationship with the drug, drawing parallels to a toxic love affair. "Of course, the song is about weed, but more specifically, it's about my abusive relationship with the drug. I compare my relationship to weed to being in a toxic relationship with a love interest, which I've also had past experiences with," she revealed.

Thoresen’s ability to blend personal experiences with universal themes is one of the reasons her music resonates so strongly with listeners. With "Mary Jane," she continues to establish herself as a compelling voice in the world of independent music, offering a raw and honest look at life's highs and lows through her unique sound.
