The War Yaks Debut 'Bifurcate', A Stellar Collection Of Catchy Hooks and Soulful Prog Rock

The War Yaks are shaking up the progressive rock landscape with the release of their debut album, 'Bifurcate', available on all major streaming platforms today. Fronted by the multi-talented Nat Rusciani, the band delivers a unique blend of soulful female vocals, soaring sax solos, and catchy hooks.

Drawing inspiration from classic acts like Genesis and Rush, as well as modern influences like Leprous and Haken, The War Yaks infuse their sound with diverse elements ranging from jazz to metal. "I feel very strongly that prog can and should be fun, hummable," says Rusciani. "The songs touch on pretty deep topics - mortality, ecology, vulnerability - but we want you tapping your toes while you contemplate them."

'Bifurcate' takes listeners on a captivating journey through love and loss, exploring themes of passion, resilience, and resistance. The album features co-writer Anthony Warga on saxophone, Esteban Mercado on guitar, Jesse Shaw on bass, and Kristina Bacich on flute. From the anime-inspired ballad 'Codriver' to the psychedelic jazz of 'Shroom Song' and the growling prog metal of the title track, 'Bifurcate' offers something for every taste.

The War Yaks' approach to their lyrics helps sets them apart from their prog peers. "Our approach to lyrics is a bit different from what you're likely to find in prog," says Rusciani. Throughout the album, The War Yaks delve into the complexities of human emotions and relationships, highlighting stark themes with lines like "easy now, don’t hurt yourself in your rage" in 'Footprints'. "My hope is that everyone can feel a bit of themselves reflected in these lines," says Rusciani. "Perhaps not specifically the ones about the sentient mycorrhizal networks, though maybe those, too."

With eight songs spanning a diverse range of genres and influences, 'Bifurcate' offers a refreshing take on modern prog. Its thoughtful, introspective lyrics, soulful vocals, and saxophone-infused sound make it a must-listen for prog fans and music enthusiasts alike.

With their catchy hooks, soulful vocals, and generous saxophone flourishes, The War Yaks are redefining what modern progressive rock can be. 'Bifurcate' is an eclectic and introspective album that showcases the band's unique vision and musical prowess.
