Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter, Xavier Rudd releases his new EP 'Freedom Sessions' via Salt.X Records / Virgin Music Group. The six-track release is Xavier’s first body of work since his critically acclaimed 2022 album 'Jan Juc Moon'.
On the release, Xavier says: “My first EP release in 25 years, ‘Freedom Sessions’ was created during a particularly unique period of time … and is a celebration of the blessing of ‘freedom’ - a simple state of being that we all should have the right to exist in. It’s been a super interesting time recording this music, through my introspective journey in studio I have learnt, grown and released.”
The EP packages four previously released singles, 'World Order', ‘High Times’, ‘Road Trippin'’ and ‘Free the People’ alongside his stunning new offering ‘Moments’. Speaking about the EP, Xavier continued, “The last song for you to hear upon release is called ‘Moments’. This is a special song for me and the perfect way to hand the last of this music over. Our lives are made up of moments that fly by so fast but shape so much. I guess the goal is to handle our moments with truth and purpose to build solid foundations in this life.”
A soulful celebration of the simple truth its title proclaims, the EP marks Xavier's first EP release in 25 years, delivering his signature blend of roots, folk, and world music. The EP weaves together recent singles to create a cohesive showcase of his heartfelt songwriting and his evolving sound. 'Freedom Sessions' is a timely reminder about the power of the individual, the necessity of community, and the constant search for balance within ourselves and the broader world.
This year will see Xavier touring the most intricate solo show of his career, playing multiple instruments and fusing complex live looping and soundscapes throughout his new songs. He recently kicked off with a tour in South Africa, where he played ‘World Order’ live for the first time at three special headline shows including a sold-out show at the renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town.
A sold-out Fremantle Prison show supported by his son Fino Rudd’s new band Calypso Cora, and two headline SummerSalt Festival performances followed immediately after in WA in early March. He recently announced a massive North American tour commencing in May – his first US and Canadian run in over five years – and has another huge European summer festival tour planned in July and August. Bali, Fiji and more Australian shows are also on the calendar for 2024.
