Bristol-based alt-pop outfit Ålesund released their new single 'Rode Off Into The Sun', championed by CLOUT and NPR. The second single to come from their upcoming EP, Rode Off Into The Sun is a triumphant, up tempo, galloping tune that is made for the summer months.
Fronted by the ethereal vocals of British-Norwegian singer-songwriter Alba Torriset, Ålesund's sound is a fusion of dreamy pop hooks, atmospheric soundscapes, and alternative rock riffs, which have drawn comparisons to the likes of Kate Bush, Florence and the Machine and London Grammar.
Since their formation in 2018, Ålesund have been making waves in the UK music scene, earning praise from industry tastemakers like BBC Radio Bristol, BBC Introducing in the West, Amazing Radio, and RTE Ireland. Their live performances have been described as captivating and mesmerizing earning them spots at some of the UK's biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, Bestival, Boomtown, and Cambridge Folk Festival.
Ålesund began working with producer Benjamin Satherley-Johnson in Bristol’s Humm Studios in early 2023 to help bring Alba’s vision to life, and 'Rode Off Into The Sun' is the second of a stream of singles to be released throughout 2023. Keen to keep the sound more raw and rough around the edges for this batch of songs, vocalist and lyricist Alba Torriset used the energy she felt from performing live and put it back into the recorded music. 'Rode Off Into The Sun' specifically has that nostalgic ‘summer festival at dusk’ feel to it.
Lyrically the song reflects on the admiration held for a character who knows her worth, who picks herself despite any adversity and makes the best out of any situation.
“I was so impressed by a friend who had been dealt a rough hand and instead of wallowing and seeing the glass as half empty, she just dusted herself off and charged on with making the best out of her life. It was inspiring to witness and became the main theme of the song”, says vocalist and lyricist Alba Torriset.
