Singer-songwriter Chanel Loren returns with ‘Carelessly Doomed’ her first music in 2024

ARIA-nominated singer-songwriter Chanel Loren returns with her first music in 2024, ‘Carelessly Doomed’ featuring American rapper Kota The Friend.

A mixture of alt-pop and R&B sonics, ‘Carelessly Doomed’ welcomes a new carefree era for Chanel. With her signature soulful vocals and the addition of pop-infused melodies reminiscent of early 2000’s Lily Allen, Chanel’s confidence and unique star quality is matched by Kota The Friend’s smooth bars, marking a fortuitous collaboration just over a year since Chanel supported Kota’s 2022 headline Australian shows.

Chanel shared about the single, “‘Carelessly Doomed' is an intimate conversation to myself about owning my overthinking and perfectionist tendencies (which I do a lot!). It's me consciously trying to let things go and accept the process - even if it scares me. I’m in my ‘Que Sera’ era. The feature with Kota The Friend happened really organically. I opened for him on tour at the end of 2022 and we got along super well. Shortly after I started teasing Carelessly Doomed and he heard a snippet and immediately DM’d me asking for the instrumental. The rest is history!”

The new single follows on from a busy 2023 for Chanel. Over the past year, she received an ARIA nomination for Best Soul/R&B release, was named an Acclaim All Star, has supported the likes of IDK, Sudan Archives and Masego and has performed at Souled Out festival (alongside Destin Conrad and Kehlani), SXSW Sydney and The Great Escape in the UK.

Since emerging back in March 2021, Chanel Loren has swiftly become one of Australia’s most promising R&B talents. Her previous singles, ‘Playlist’, ‘Disappear’, ‘Some Other Time’ feat. Arz, ‘Rollin’’ and ‘F4U’ have collectively racked up over 2M streams and garnered praise globally, including Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), Victoria Jane (BBC Radio 1), Reprezent, Foundation FM, triple j and FBi. Chanel has also been championed by the likes of Clash, Dummy, Early Rising, Acclaim, Sniffers, Notion, Line of Best Fit and VICE, while also gaining recognition from local tastemakers after winning FBi’s SMAC Award for Song Of The Year for ‘Playlist’ and a nomination for Best New Act from AUD$.

Hailed by VICE as a ‘A defier of genres and a boundary pusher’, Chanel Loren has been likened to artists such as SZA, Jorja Smith and Bakar, all while meticulously crafted her sound that is so uniquely her own. Born and raised in South-East London and now based in Sydney Australia, Chanel is continuing to make a name for herself across continents, with ‘Carelessly Doomed’ signalling there is much more to come in 2024.
