Australia’s Mark Howard shares a gorgeous ode to lost love in ‘Scarlette’

A talented singer and songwriter from Phillip Island, Australia, Mark Howard has just shared his poignant new single ‘Scarlette’, a gorgeous tribute to lost love. Transcending mainstream pop styles, the new single sees Mark seamlessly blending memories and melody to create a soul-stirring song filled with raw, expressive moments.

Reflecting on a lost love that lingers in Mark’s memory, ‘Scarlette’ sees the rising artist seamlessly blending gorgeous vocal layers with melancholic guitar tones and hazy rock atmospherics, creating a solid sound that shines with ruminative moments. Mark’s vocals are clean and filled with emotion, while poetic lyrics like “flickering light you cannot replace,” charm time and time again. It’s a moving success, showing a more sombre and expressive side to Mark’s rock-infused style.

Speaking about the single, Mark shared, "The song was first workshopped with my previous band on a rainy day in Cape Woolamai. Once the opening lyric, 'She breaks,' came bursting out, I knew what direction the song would take, but it would eventually take a few years to find the right sonic atmosphere."

Mixed by Dave Prideaux of Sunderland Studio and mastered by Andy Stewart at The Mill, the song carries listeners on an emotional journey through Mark's personal experiences, offering a glimpse into the bittersweet tapestry of love and loss.

With a musical career that has touched 45 countries and counting, Mark has earned critical acclaim for his evocative storytelling and genre-defying sound. Drawing inspiration from the vast ocean, the untamed wilderness, and the universal language of music, Mark infuses his compositions with a raw authenticity that is sure to resonate with audiences worldwide.
