Perth’s indie-rock outfit, Daisy Park, have returned with their latest offering, ‘Always’, a track that delves into the complexities of concealed emotions and heartbreak. This release marks their first single for 2025 and follows a successful 2023, where they were recognised in the triple J Unearthed High Yearbook, earning the playful nod of the ‘Spacey Jane’s Little Sibling Award’.
‘Always’ presents a more vulnerable side to the band, exploring the struggle of masking inner turmoil with a facade of composure. Vocalist Fyn explains, “At its core, ‘Always’ is about the sudden loss of a relationship, and trying to cope with not knowing what went wrong. It covers the feelings that I showed externally to my friends and family as opposed to how I really felt on the inside. The contrast of my outward projection and my interior dialogue was a really big part of the writing process.”
Musically, the track is characterised by its powerful, reverb-drenched guitar lines, drawing inspiration from the likes of Wunderhorse and Slow Pulp. This sonic palette creates an anthemic backdrop for Fyn’s introspective lyrics, delivering a raw and emotional punch.
The single is accompanied by a visually striking music video, directed by Juno Shean, a close friend of the band. Shot along Fremantle’s picturesque coastline, the video exudes a nostalgic aura, utilising a vibrant colour palette to enhance the sense of longing. “This was the first music video we'd ever done as a band,” says Fyn. “That green lighthouse is an iconic part of Fremantle, the place where most of us grew up in our teenage years. We’re all just young adults that met in high school and are creating art together and the fact that we do this because we love it is really special to me. I’m super proud that we were able to do this on our own.”
Daisy Park’s journey began in 2022, rapidly establishing them as a prominent act in Perth’s music scene. Their debut single, ‘Unfair Game’, garnered considerable praise from triple j Unearthed, propelling them into the 2023 Yearbook. Their live performances, known for their energetic and engaging nature, have seen them share stages with notable Australian artists like Sly Withers, TOWNS, and Fool Nelson.
The band’s 2024 release, ‘Worth It’, received national airplay on triple j, further solidifying their growing reputation. Guitarist Mitch Santiago recorded and mixed ‘Always’ in his home studio, highlighting the band's DIY ethos. With a debut EP on the horizon, a slot at Hyper Fest alongside San Cisco and DICE, and a West Coast tour supporting Fool Nelson, 2025 is shaping up to be a defining year for Daisy Park. Their ability to blend emotional depth with powerful indie-rock soundscapes positions them as one of Australia’s most promising emerging acts.
