"I walked into the session and knew exactly what I wanted to write," Daniel explained, recalling the studio session with his producer, Larzz. "I told Larzz the story behind the title: one day, I had a huge blowout with one of my friends. He came to me and yelled at me for an hour and a half, accusing me of being self-involved—never calling, never asking how he was, never making the effort."

Initially defensive, Daniel later realised the truth in his friend's words. "A few days later, I sat with myself and thought, ‘Maybe you’re right. Maybe I am selfish.’” This moment of self-awareness became a turning point, not only in his personal life but also in his creative process.

"It was a weird moment of realization and acceptance of who I was in that moment—a human being capable of making mistakes," Daniel shared. Channelling the complex emotions of defensiveness, sadness, and eventual acceptance into the song, he found a sense of relief. "The friendship wasn’t the same after that, but writing 'Selfish' felt like a huge relief. It was like saying out loud what I had been afraid to admit, and that honesty became the core of the album’s direction."
