Aussie indie darlings Deep Sea Arcade are back and making waves with a fresh take on their beloved track 'Steam'. This isn't your average remix, though. Think Daft Punk meets Justice, with a healthy dose of cinematic flair and a banging beat that'll get you moving. The band have teamed up with Barley Passable to give 'Steam' a futuristic makeover, while still keeping that nostalgic feel that made the original so special.
This exciting release comes just ahead of the vinyl reissue of their iconic debut album, 'Outlands', which hits the shelves on November 29th via Impressed Recordings. If you're a vinyl enthusiast or just a fan of classic Aussie indie, you won't want to miss this.
The original 'Steam' was mixed by the legendary Doug Boehm, who has worked with everyone from Powderfinger to Miley Cyrus. Now, Barley Passable have taken Boehm's original stems and cleverly woven in modern elements, creating a dynamic track that bridges the gap between Deep Sea Arcade's past and their exciting future.
Frontman Nic McKenzie is clearly stoked with the result, saying: "I'm absolutely loving the spin the Barley Passable guys have put on this rework of Steam. It’s inspired me to explore new and creative transitions for our live shows this March."
Speaking of live shows, Deep Sea Arcade are hitting the road in March 2025 for an East Coast tour, with support from the awesome Naarm/Chicago-based psych artist Milou Moon. Expect to hear some fresh tunes too, as the band are currently busy cooking up their much-anticipated third album with co-producer and mixer Jay Watson (of Tame Impala and Pond fame). The first taste of the new album will be 'No Direction', dropping in March just in time for the tour.
It's shaping up to be a massive year for Deep Sea Arcade. With a fresh new sound, a classic album reissue, and a tour on the horizon, they're showing no signs of slowing down. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting news from these Aussie indie icons.
