One of Brisbane’s best-loved indie-rock groups, Eliza & The Delusionals have been carving their own brilliant path through music over the last few years, winning over fans and critics alike with two stellar EP’s, and a string of impressive singles. After making an indelible mark on 2021 with new single ‘Sentimental’ and the standout ‘A State of Living In An Objective Reality’, one of our top releases of 2020, Eliza and the gang are back, stepping boldly into the spotlight with one of their most triumphant pop-inspired singles to date, the simply titled ‘YOU’.
A shimmering, summer release inspired by the vibrant pop tones of the late ‘90s, the new single is is joyous expansive of the band’s sound, arriving with a timeless sound and plenty of subtle textures like turntable scratching and cascading pop beats.
Speaking candidly about the new single in a press release, guitarist Kurt Skuse explained, “’YOU’ was written as a point of view type situation of any type of relationship where you just can’t possibly do enough for a person, only to have them give nothing in return and pretty much throw it back in your face. Essentially watching someone fall apart and knowing there’s nothing more you can do to help. That’s why it’s called ‘YOU’, it’s for you.”
The track, which was produced by Kon Kersting, best known for his work with local indie-pop sensation Tones And I, was released alongside a Nick Maguire-directed music video, which further emphasises the sharp ‘90s influence that holds the new single together.
“We were lucky enough to be able to film the video in a warehouse at Screen QLD,” the band continued, “We wanted it to be inspired by the 90’s/2000’s outfit and style-wise, and we wanted it to have something that was nostalgic but with a fresh feel to it.”
