MAUMAUMAU Tackles Modern Dating in Hilarious 'God Bless The Irony' Video

Mexican indie-rocker MAUMAUMAU is back, and he's not pulling any punches when it comes to the trials and tribulations of modern dating. His latest music video for 'God Bless The Irony', directed by Daniel Cloud Campos, is a hilarious and chaotic journey through the ups and downs of swiping, matching, and ultimately, getting your heart stomped on.

Set to the backdrop of MAUMAUMAU's signature mind-melting indie rock sound, the video perfectly captures the frustration and absurdity of trying to find love in the digital age. Mau himself stars in the video, swiping through an endless stream of potential matches with a mix of hope and despair. Things quickly take a turn for the bizarre, however, as Mau's dating app experiences become increasingly surreal and violent.

In one scene, Mau is literally beaten up by his own reflection after a particularly disappointing match. In another, he's chased through a dark forest by a Tinder date gone wrong. It's all very tongue-in-cheek, of course, but it also speaks to the very real anxieties and frustrations that come with putting yourself out there in the modern dating world.

As Mau himself explains, "The GBTI video is unhinged, and I think it’s a wonderful representation of the frustrations I felt when exploring single life in Los Angeles. I hope you laugh out loud and enjoy the rollercoaster this video provides."

Director Daniel Cloud Campos adds, "I’m sure this video may come off a bit violent to some, but it’s a shared sense of humor Mau and I have always had. I’m glad it finally found its way into something captured through both our passions of storytelling and music. I think it represents what this song is talking about. Online dating is weird."

'God Bless The Irony' is the second single from MAUMAUMAU's debut album, MAUCH, a concept album that explores every stage and emotion that follows a breakup. If the rest of the album is anything like this video, we're in for a wild ride.

MAUMAUMAU has been steadily building a following over the past few years, thanks in part to his critically acclaimed EP, 'Meow Meow Meow', and his popular TikTok Live series, 'Late Night Lullabies with MAUMAUMAU'
