Oral Rodriguez – ‘Soca Sax’

A saxophonist and executive producer filling a gap in the Soca industry with vibrant instrumental releases, Oral Rodriguez has become a fitting champion of the genre. The first official release in his mission to reignite the passion behind Soca music, Oral Rodriguez has teamed up with producer Stadic to deliver the vibrant ‘Soca Sax’.

For those who are new to the Soca style, it was largely defined by Lord Shorty as the ‘Soul Of Calypso’. A genre that originated within a marginalized subculture in Trinidad and Tobago throughout the early 1970s, Soca was initially developed in an effort to revive traditional calypso, infusing the style with influences from Latin, cadence, funk, and soul music. Since the 1970s, Soca has evolved throughout the Caribbean, reshaping itself and blossoming into the sun-kissed style that Oral Rodriguez shares.

In true form, ‘Soca Sax’ arrives as another evolutionary step for the genre, with Oral Rodriguez layering his smooth sax sounds with the traditional beats found in Soca and Calypso hits over the past years. Along with the release of the song, Oral Rodriguez has also shared the official music video for the track, which was shot on three prominent beach locations on the northern coast of Trinidad, Maracas Bay, Tyrico Bay, and Las Cuevas Bay.

‘Soca Sax’ is an incredible piece of music with visuals matching all of the elements of festivals in Trinidad and Tobago, keeping you dancing, moving, and inspired all day and all night long.

Oral Rodriguez began his journey performing for six years with the  XTATIK band, performing alongside lead singer Machel Montano, and delivering hits such as ‘Big Truck’. He also performed with Asylum Band for ten years with lead singer Bunji Garlin and the talented Fay Ann Lyons, and he has performed with Destra Garcia for three years.

He’s currently performing with D All Starz and is also a member of the TTPS band, working on new music and releases which will arrive throughout 2023.
