A Puerto Rican band with a refreshing take on the alt-rock scene, TUNNL19 might be a relatively new outfit, but its founding members have over twenty-five years of experience between them. After leading a variety of cover bands throughout the last thirteen years, Eguie Fernández and Ángel Yoel Soto began TUNNL19 as a way to create something that was new and fiercely original.
With a sound that is marked by heavy alt-rock scales, defiant grunge energy, and raw industrial flourishes, Eguie and Ángel delivered their first single earlier this year with the release of ‘Voces’, and ever since then, they’ve been carving out an unforgettable path. Billed as a ‘letter of introduction’ to the band, ‘Voces’ took its time taking hold, burning a path through the local rock stations in Latin American and Spain, before eventually setting fire to international airwaves.
For the release, TUNNL19 teamed up with the renowned engineer and producer Sean P. Jones, who has worked with artists of the calibre of St. Vincent, Wyclef Jean, Eagles of Death Metal, among others, a move which in no small way has ensured its success.
Speaking openly about ‘Voces’ in a recent press release, Eguie explained, “It is a song that will connect because all of us at some point, have gone through depression. We are living in a world in which the mental state of people is something that must be carefully monitored. I can connect with whoever tells me what goes through this because I lived it. It is a way of telling people I understand you and if I got out, you can get out too. It's describing a state of mind, what it feels like.”
Available now alongside the official music video, ‘Voces’ has continued to impress fans and critics alike, creating a unique a wonderfully personal blend of Latin rock and old grunge that will appeal to fans from all walks of life.
Along with ‘Voces’, the band have also recently shared their second single ‘Encerrado (Contigo)’, which is available now in all stores and digital music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Tidal.
