Every so often, we stumble upon an artist who simply can’t be denied, whether it’s for their style, sound, or overall creative ethos, there’s something about them that just has us totally obsessed. In the case of Alexa Van, it’s for all three of those reasons and many more.
A talented singer and songwriter who has risen to prominence as the stunning frontwoman of LA’s own Alex Van and The Black Outs, Alexa caught out attention in an interview with Be In A Band, Or Die, where she spoke about their latest alt-rock single and “being fucked by society”. It was a short, but brilliant piece, and it lit a fire under us that hasn’t stopped burning since. Now, with word that Alexa has just released another indie-pop epic, we couldn’t wait to cover it.
Titled ‘The X’, the new single is another gorgeous synth-pop single that captures a stunning new side to Alexa’s sound. Built to impress and entertain in equal measure, the single is a glistening cascade of high-stepping beats and emotive vocals, echoing the sounds of Sky Ferreira’s seminal debut album, while also shining with Alexa’s stunning and fiercely original style. Easily one of the most enchanting singles we’ve heard in the year so far, ‘The X’ is cathartic, emotive, and absolutely unforgettable.
Available now on Spotify, along with Alexa’s previous single ‘Not My Problem’ and ‘Never Mind’, ‘The X’ is essential new listening from one of LA’s most impressive new voices.
While her primary focus lies with her band and carving up the indie rock scene, Alexa first started recording pop music during quarantine, creating a gorgeous, vibrant sound with help from Joshua Hawksley, guitar player of The Black Outs.
