Boaty Blanco – ‘Nonchalant’

  • 2 min read

One of the East Coast's most intriguing hip-hop acts, Boaty Blanco has spent years creating his sound. A talented performer with a penchant for blending real world grit with heavy, expressive beats, Blanco has already proved himself time and time again, but with his new single ‘Nonchalant’, he’s taken things to a whole new level.

An artist who has been to the very edge and bravely looked down into the abyss, Boaty Blanco has found a home in chaos. Growing up in Drums, Pennsylvania, Blanco took to chaos at an early age, and small-town rebellion soon evolved into a serious drug problem. Eventually, Blanco new that something had to give, and in the end, he found his salvation in music. After dropping his first mixtape, the aptly named ‘Chaos’, back in 2018, Blanco has continued to carve out an impressive legacy, developing his sound into a hard-hitting cacophony of razor-sharp wit and alt-rock attitude.

His new single, ‘Nonchalant’ is another impressive illustration of Blanco’s skills, and it’s quickly become one of his most instantly recognisable singles to date. Lashing out with smooth vocals that deliver some hard-learned lessons and honest truths, the single is an absolute joy to hear. Built on sparse, flowing beats, layered production, and some clever creative flourishes, it perfectly captures Blanco’s style and struggle, along with a neat guest spot from local rapper Sellz.

Citing artists like Eminem, Lil Wayne, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Petty as influences, Blanco brilliantly deconstructs their style to build his own, taking elements of several genres and distilling them into his own honest style. Previously, Blanco has expressed that no subject is off-limits, least of all his own folly, and on ‘Nonchalant’ he’s proving that, breaking down his past and coming to terms with it all.

Before the pandemic, Blanco landed opening gigs for superstars like Fetty Wap, Lil Durk and Jay Critch. During the lockdowns, he hit the studio to record and produce a string of banging tracks, which only goes to show that ‘Nonchalant’ is just the beginning.
