Offering a profound vision of heartbreak and longing through his music, Naples-born Emilio Lanza is back in the spotlight with his new single, ‘Rearview Mirror’, a piece that deftly reflects on lost love.
After finding inspiration from his guitar idols, Ed Sheeran and James Bay, it wasn’t long until Emilio Lanza’s signature acoustic percussive fingerstyle guitars and evocative approach to pop song crafting found a wider audience. Going from strength to strength, Emilio’s career has been littered with highlights, including two significant occasions where he met James Bay online and in person, and when one of his covers was shared by Ed Sheeran himself.
His latest release in a long line of impressive cuts, ‘Rearview Mirror’ takes lead from Emilio’s ability to translate raw, honest emotions into beautiful melodies, offering listeners a bright sense of hope at the end of the tunnel. With a glistening composition that displays Emilio’s signature guitar sound, the new track mixes exquisite pop production and smooth vocal work to create a well-rounded and perfectly balanced piece.
Similarly, the arrangements and poignant lyrics help give the track a lingering, sorrowful vibe, complementing the vocals and outlining the tale of a narrator being chased by the ghost of a lost love. It’s a touching and inescapable release, but one that ultimately has a powerful and positive outcome. As Emilio explains, “My song, ‘Rearview Mirror’, is a metaphor representing our past, nightmares, breakups or scary thoughts; it can be anything, but the message is positive, as reflected by the cover art depicting a sunset ahead and struggles in the rearview mirror. I wrote the song following the end of a six-year love story and other life hardships.”
From meeting his heroes to amassing thousands of subscribers and followers on social media, Emilio has been on a roll for quite a while now. Speaking about his plans for the future, Emilio confided, “After the release of ‘Rearview Mirror’, I will be aiming for a happier and less nostalgic sound with my future releases while keeping the acoustic guitar elements and the authentic songwriting style that has become predominant in my discography. My next project is my EP, ‘OFFSHORE’, the title is inspired by my Naval Engineering studies at university; it is being primed for a 2024 release.”
