Leeds' own alternative rock trio Honeycub are back with their titanic new single, 'Can't Deny It'. A rough-and-ready track that sees the band delving into new territory, it's a single heavily inspired by the band's experience of the not-too-distant Covid lockdowns.
Centering on themes such as boredom, isolation, escapism and a lust for change are ever present in the lyrics, the song represents a throwback to the band's earlier influences of Weezer, Dinosaur Pile-Up and Blur. A more stripped back production was opted for which reflects where the song was written at the time during lockdown and also pays homage to the band's earlier work which was all written and recorded in bedrooms.
The 'happy-sad' feeling of the song mirrors the time the song was written in where people were happy to work from home and see their family more but sad that they felt trapped in their little box and needed escape.
The creation and recording of this song was in itself a great form of escapism for the band and was crucial in keeping the band together and connected through a lonely and isolated existence.
