A Brooklyn native now calling Orlando, Florida home, J. Tesfa is a talented rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer with a penchant for blending soul, funk, and RnB into unique and wonderfully inspirational style. Self-described as “music from the heart and soul for everyday people”, Tesfa has built his career on refreshing beats and heartfelt lyrics, offering universal thrills with a true, human touch.
Born into a musical family, he grew up watching his Father produce reggae music, and was first introduced to hip-hop by his older sister. It was the start of a love affair with music that has burnt until this day, and as Tesfa grew and expanded his sound, he soon started to collect an impressive list of influences. While his early work was launched from the hip-hop heavy sounds of Jay-Z and Biggie, it was Snoop Dogg’s ‘Doggystyle’ that Tesfa credits as being a turning point, introducing him to the expansive G-Funk sound that would later colour all Tesfa’s releases.
Armed with a unique style that’s infused with his early loves of hip-hop, funk, soul, and reggae, Tesfa looked set to take on the world, layering his evolved musical style with a conscious stream of lyrical gems that that shine a light on everyday life. While a seven-year hiatus from music in 2010 kept Tesfa from the spotlight, he’s recently returned to the scene with a newfound energy, breaking barriers and carving out a new path.
