A confessed four-piece sludge factory formed in Moscow, Russia, but currently scattered across cities and countries, Montezuma’s Revenge have been hell-bent on ”smudging ears, clubs and studio walls with fat, dirt, and sweat since 2004.
With a number of impressive and doom-filled singles already to their name, the band have been “engaging in illegal guitar feedback activities and serving prime cuts of lard-laden heavy low-end to style aficionados around the world.” Most recently, the band have made their titanic return to form, bringing with them a dark, stoner single that is sure to impress.
Titled ‘Солнце (Sun)’, the new single is the band at their most visceral and explosive, delivering nearly six-minutes of crushing sludge metal. Speaking about the track, the band explained, “A year into the void, despair, and emptiness of the broken world we have found ourselves in since February '22 - this track is a mere reflection, a figment of a traumatised collective consciousness of this band. Our lives changed irreversibly by now making us as alive as Schrödinger's cat. A disjointed musical apparatus with all four members currently in 4 different corners of the world - the UAE, Germany, US, and Kazakhstan - yet still going... Serving you these riffs and screams for no good reason.”
Available now on all major platforms, ‘Солнце (Sun)’ is arguably one of the most dominating tracks of the year so far, and it’s perfectly at home on our Spotify playlists.
One of the band’s most celebrated singles ‘New You’ was written in late 2020. Of course, fast-forward to 2023 and the song has taken on an entirely new meaning for all involved following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. A move that confirmed the band’s decision to leave for new beginnings.
“Back then the horror was not real, it was a mere premonition,” explains guitarist, Ilya Boots. “The clichéd DNA of being a doom band in a doomed land. We couldn’t live there any longer.”
