A Montreal-born, Harlem-based soul singer, OTH€LLO, has made an ethereal debut with the release of his first official single, ‘SZA 4 NGAZ’. A track that seamlessly blends elements of sensuous RnB with hip-hop verses and dynamic, Afrobeat rhythmics, OTH€LLO’s debut paints a vivid picture of the new talent’s artistic abilities.

Contrasting mellow beats and saturated indie guitar chords in the intro to the track, OTH€LLO takes the listener on a blissful, indulgent journey, progressively building the track with each passing moment. Celebrating his roots, while also practicing radical acceptance, ‘SZA 4 NGAZ’ evolves into a dynamic slice of modern soul, building on OTH€LLO’s vocals and revelling in bright Afro-Fusionist authenticity. Pairing caressing gospel-tinged vocals with down-to-earth lyrics, the song is the start of a joyous new chapter in soul.

Speaking about the single on its release, OTH€LLO said, “This song is an exploration of how growing my dreads again after cutting my first set was like falling again. It sonically narrates the process of self-love and self-acceptance through a fiercely Afrocentric and sexual perspective.”

Borrowing instrumentals from BeatsbyJonas, and recording his vocals at Lounge Studios in NYC, OTH€LLO’s debut single dropped on the 1st of July, and has been making waves ever since. You can stream the single now on all your favourite streaming platforms.

After moving to New York City in 2019, OTH€LLO has been living his dream, linking up with Lounge Studios, where Solange Knowles recorded her two latest projects. Armed with the sensual sounds of his debut, he’s set to make his mark all the more with a full EP, ‘Miss Mayotte’, due out in early September.
