Today, Scottish quintet Bird Cage Theatre have charged into the spotlight with new single 'Fire Went Down', a searingly personal track drawn from the depths of frontman Chris Molloy's past.
A song that tells the story of a fight against self-destructive tendencies, and of facing inner darkness and refusing to let it win, 'Fire Went Down' is inescapable. Blending visceral indie rock sounds with poignant lyrics and stark, emotional moments, the song presents a clear and honest space where there is a willingness to forgive and a refusal to let past mistakes define the future.
Speaking openly about the song, Chris shared, "There was a point a few years ago when I faced a particularly challenging period in my life. My own behaviour was taking a toll on my mental health as I indulged in excessive drinking on weekends and found myself in increasingly dangerous situations. I was losing the aspects of myself that I loved and came to the realization that a change was crucial”.
From small-town roots to the vibrant indie scene, Bird Cage Theatre is carving a distinct sound that marries intimate storytelling with the energy of a full-fledged band. At its core lies a lifelong bond between singer-songwriter Chris Molloy and guitarist Marc Kean, whose shared passion for music ignited in the Scottish town of Newmains.
In 2021, fate intervened when Chris' heartfelt solo work captured drummer Simon Usher's attention. A chance coffee meeting and a shared love for heartfelt music ignited a creative spark. Joined by Marc, and later Stephen Dennis on piano and Craig Russell on bass, Bird Cage Theatre was born, ready transform Chris' home recordings into full-bodied anthems.
