The Tempted's 'Passions & Misdemeanours' Is A Genre-Bending Return

The alternative rock landscape just got a vibrant shake-up with the release of 'Passions & Misdemeanours', the latest album from the seasoned duo, The Tempted. This 13-track offering is a fierce illustration of their enduring creativity, weaving together a rich tapestry of sounds that defy easy categorisation.

'Passions & Misdemeanours' is more than just a collection of songs; it's a sonic voyage. The album seamlessly blends alternative rock with raw blues undertones and a splash of synth-pop sparkle, creating a soundscape that's both familiar and refreshingly new. This cross-continental project saw tracks meticulously mixed by Gunnar Smari Helgason in Iceland and Ross Owen Campbell in the United States, before being mastered in New York by Campbell.

The result is a polished yet gritty sound that captures the essence of The Tempted's artistry. A significant nod also goes to Shug Brankin, whose powerful basslines provide a solid foundation, adding depth and texture throughout the record. Adding to the album's allure are the notable guest appearances. Mick MacNeil, the former keyboardist from Simple Minds, lends his distinctive touch, while disco sensation Mary Kiani graces select tracks with her iconic vocals. Their contributions elevate the album, bringing fresh perspectives and a dynamic energy.

Fans of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Foo Fighters, and Matchbox 20 will find plenty to love in 'Passions & Misdemeanours'. The album's expansive sound draws inspiration from 1980s icons like Tears for Fears and Elbow, with a clear homage to the legendary Simple Minds. As Brian Callaghan and Michael McDonagh, the heart of The Tempted, explain, this release is a culmination of their musical evolution.

Their journey began in 1990, with Callaghan crafting a substantial catalogue of songs recorded in a modest home studio. Early demos, created in Glasgow with Ross Campbell and Shug Brankin, sparked interest from labels like Island Records. Although those early discussions didn't materialise, the duo's connection remained strong.

By 2021, both Callaghan and McDonagh had pursued solo projects, reigniting their collaborative spark. They began revisiting and refining their old material, blending their accumulated experience and musical growth. Two years later, 'Passions & Misdemeanours' emerged, a testament to their dedication and artistic vision.

'Passions & Misdemeanours' is a reflection of years of passion and dedication. It's a celebration of their enduring partnership and a showcase of their evolving sound. With its genre-bending blend of influences and standout collaborations, this album is poised to make a significant impact. Keep an eye out for upcoming live shows and behind-the-scenes content as The Tempted embark on this exciting new chapter.
