Western Sydney seven-piece band Vinyl 45 release their new single ‘Top Down’, the perfect track to round out the summer. This nostalgic track infuses elements of neo soul into their indie pop sound.
Following their debut single ‘Infomation’, Vinyl 45 are starting their 2023 with a beautiful, smooth sound giving the feeling of leaving your worries behind. ‘Top Down’ is a deep dive into that moment when the stress gets too much to handle; when you reach for the one person that will silence those worries & drive away with them, leaving all your fears behind.
Aaron Gunawickrema explained, “This track holds a special place in my heart as it was the first track we recorded with the band that was a reflection of my personal feelings at the time. The lyrics basically talk about that moment when everything around you gets too stressful to handle, be it money matters, study, whatever. And you just want to leave it all behind and go to the one person that will silence all those worries and voices in your head, get in a car with them and drive away, leaving everything behind.”
Coming from a diverse cultural background including Sri Lanka, Myanmar, South America, Scotland and Wales, Western Sydney's own Vinyl 45 put their music degree power into recording at Western Sydney University. Vinyl 45 joined forces with Truboy hailing from Sydney's South-West, for his rap debut on Top Down with immaculate flow and lyrical philosophy.
Recorded and mixed by sound engineer, Mitchell Hart and mastered by highly acclaimed Ben Feggans from Studio301 (Sampa the Great, Two People, Vera Blue and RÜFÜS DU SOL), the collaboration of these creative minds really showcase how ‘Top Down’ has been brought to life.
Aaron continued, "In terms of the vibe of the song, I wanted to make it sound like a song you actually would listen to while driving in your car with your partner. Windows rolled down, a cool breeze in your hair, the person you love next to you. Just good vibes.”
