Following the success of his recently released single ‘DOOFENSHMIRTZ’, Eora/Sydney emcee Yawdoesitall returns with ‘Love Jones’; a dynamic, R&B-tinged bop that takes inspiration from the 1997 classic romantic film of the same name.
With production by Jameson and mixing/mastering from Deja Miru (KAHUKX, DSP, Jaecy), the vibe on Love Jones is a change of pace from his previous single - with a menacing, sensual bass line and Yaw’s unique, expressive flow that feels equally hard-hitting and addictively melodic. Love Jones also see’s Yaw dive into singing territory, testing out his pipes on the chorus with a incredibly memorable hook.
Speaking about the new single, Yawdoesitall added, "Love jones was originally made with Tawanda and Devaura as features. Jameson and his brother Eduardo started the beat and I wrote a verse for it. Devaura and I worked on the hook and I initially wanted devaura to sing it but I decided to give it a go. A challenge I enjoyed as the outcome was beautiful. I then finished the song but There’s still a version with dev and Tawanda as features which might come out later perhaps.”
Thematically the song references the 1997 romantic comedy ‘Love Jones’, and is used as a catalyst to reflect on some of Yaw’s personal relationships, as well as relationship dynamics on a broader scale.
He continued, “This song covers my take on one of my favourite films “love jones”. It juggles losing and dealing with past relationships and sometimes just allowing it to end. “Is a good thing not enough” is a question to the partner involved to insinuate that it was fun while it lasted. This is also a page from the book of my love life that made it on record. From feeling a pressure to save someone you love “oh you think I’m Jehovah” to “Now I gotta leave you to God…” both verses juxtapose each other.”
