Mannequin Death Squad Unleash 'Wise and Dangerous' and Confront 'Shame'

Melbourne's dynamic rock-punk duo, Mannequin Death Squad, have returned with their highly anticipated second album, 'Wise and Dangerous'. Self-produced, expertly mixed by Brent Quirk, and mastered by Matt Gray, known for his work with Violent Soho and The Veronicas, the record is a testament to their raw energy and genre-defying approach. To coincide with the album's release, they've also unveiled a striking video for the powerful track, 'Shame'.

'Shame' begins with a deceptive tranquility, Elly Vex's ethereal vocals floating over a melancholic acoustic guitar melody. This serene opening, however, is quickly shattered as the band's signature punk-infused intensity takes hold. True to form, the track weaves through unexpected sonic shifts, blending abrasive riffs, high-octane drumming, and driving basslines with moments of brooding, mid-paced rhythms. Waves of fuzz-laden guitar crash against the backdrop of Elly's commanding vocals, reflecting the internal conflict of being exploited for one's kindness.

The duo shed light on the song's inspiration, stating, "Coming to terms with the fact that you are too nice and are getting walked over in life, 'Shame' is an indie rock anthem about taking responsibility for things not going your way. It's about accepting that you are not special, and life is what you make of it." This sentiment of self-awareness and empowerment resonates throughout the track, transforming personal frustration into a potent anthem of resilience.

Mannequin Death Squad's reputation for electrifying live performances has seen them share stages with an impressive roster of artists, including Suicidal Tendencies, Soulfly, Hollywood Undead, and UK duo SOFT PLAY. Their live shows have taken them across the globe, headlining tours in the UK, Europe, and India, and featuring at renowned festivals like Rebellion Festival and SXSW.

Following a sold-out hometown show at Bergy Bandroom, the band are now set to embark on their 'Wise and Dangerous' National Tour, bringing their captivating live energy to audiences across Australia. Their ability to blend punk aggression with indie rock introspection, as showcased in 'Shame', demonstrates their unique ability to create music that is both raw and deeply relatable.
