Stefan West Paints a Portrait of Lifelong Friendship in New Single 'Paint Me How You See Me'

Indie rock artist Stefan West, hailing from the picturesque Geelong Surf Coast near Melbourne, Australia, has released his poignant new single, 'paint me how you see me'. The track, a preview of his forthcoming album 'just another sunflower, searching for the sun', dives into the profound depths of friendship and the indelible marks such connections leave on our lives.

'paint me how you see me' serves as a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering support and understanding that true friends offer, particularly during life's inevitable transitions. "This song is about the importance of friendship, especially that one person who has been there through thick and thin," Stefan reveals. "As we grow older, we encounter new environments and people, but it’s those day-one friends who truly understand our journey."

The song's creation was a serendipitous blend of inspiration and collaboration. "I had learned some new folk-style fingerpicking patterns and spent hours just playing and humming," Stefan recalls. "I ended up recording about 15 minutes of material in a random order. I finished the structure during the pandemic; Aaron Schembri and I were sending demos back and forth to each other."

Produced by Chris Gatz and mastered by Joe Carra, 'paint me how you see me' is a sonic tapestry woven from Stefan's indie rock sensibilities and his deeply personal storytelling, resulting in what he describes as "a little punk, rock n’ folk." The track opens with a gentle acoustic guitar riff, reminiscent of a campfire sing-along, before building into a driving rhythm punctuated by Stefan’s emotive vocals. The chorus soars with an anthemic quality, capturing the essence of shared experiences and enduring bonds. Hints of punk energy surge through the verses, adding an edge to the song's heartfelt message.

Stefan's musical influences are as diverse as the sounds he creates, ranging from Blink 182 and Dashboard Confessional to Noah Kahn and Sum 41. He aims to capture the raw emotion and authenticity that these artists embody, while also carving his own unique path. "I think what makes me stand out as an artist is my unwavering passion to portray the whole picture of what my life looks like," he reflects.

With 'paint me how you see me', Stefan West invites listeners to join him on a journey of introspection and celebration of the friendships that shape our lives. The single is a testament to his commitment to sharing his experiences through music, and a promising glimpse into the sonic landscapes he will explore on his upcoming album.
