Watson Moon's ‘Turn Away’ Is An Emotive Acoustic Track Worth Exploring

Watson Moon, the musical project of Matt Melrose, has unveiled his latest offering, ‘Turn Away’, a raw and evocative acoustic track that will cut you to the core. Armed with a rustic charm and simple melody, the single creates a captivating atmosphere, drawing listeners into Melrose's world through his distinctive vocals and gentle instrumentation.

Melrose, originally from Seattle and now based in Orange County, California, described the unusual inspiration behind ‘Turn Away’. He recounts a visit to the zoo, a seemingly ordinary day that triggered an extraordinary experience. Observing the animals, he felt an unsettling connection, a blurring of boundaries between himself and the creatures in their enclosures. "I BECAME them in my mind, to the point where I didn’t have control over my own body anymore," he explains. This disorienting sensation, a feeling of floating between realities, left him deeply shaken.

This sense of detachment followed him to a restaurant, where a spilt coffee incident further amplified his feeling of being disconnected. "I was watching it happen, but it was like I was outside my own body, on the ceiling or up beyond it," he recalls. This experience became the catalyst for ‘Turn Away’, a song born from the confusion and emotional turmoil of that day.

Shining with an easy melody, the ‘Turn Away’ cascades beautifully, drifting through Watson Moon’s calling vocals and light, mellow atmospherics. The lyrics, "I'm your man, better love me while you can," and "I'm your girl, better give me all the world," represent the fragmented voices within him, the struggle between holding on and letting go.

While Melrose's personal interpretation of the song stems from this profound experience of disorientation, he acknowledges that listeners have found their own meanings in the track, with many interpreting it as a reflection on the complexities of modern dating. “Many people have told me they interpret the tune about the modern dating landscape…” he shares, “so that could be what it's about too.”

Whatever you draw from ‘Turn Away’, it’s clear it’s a powerful single that is destined to make a mark on anyone who hears it. Following his earlier release, ‘Lying In The Lilies’, this new single further establishes Watson Moon as an artist with a unique and compelling voice.
