Sydney's alt-pop sensation GRAACE is set to return with her first new project in two years, the 'afterimage' EP, out August 16th via Sony Music / The Orchard. The announcement comes alongside the release of her latest single, 'Her', available for streaming now.
GRAACE, who shot to fame with her triple-platinum collaboration 'NUMB' with Australian DJ Hayden James, has since amassed nearly 100 million streams on Spotify and toured extensively. Her new EP, 'afterimage', promises a journey through the stages of heartbreak, from jealousy and angst to reflection and acceptance, with each of the seven tracks representing a different phase.
On 'Her', the latest single, GRAACE comments, "After a breakup, it's common to feel the need to check in on your ex as they move on, eventually realising you've been replaced. Comparing yourself to their new partner, you might view them through rose-tinted glasses, leading to a mix of jealousy, self-doubt, and infatuation. Unsure if you're jealous, aspire to be like her, or desire to be with her, this universal experience often results in becoming more invested in her than your ex."
Reflecting on the EP, GRAACE adds, "Just as an afterimage is the lingering impression of an object seen after closing your eyes, afterimage captures the essence of carrying past relationships into new experiences, incorporating the lessons, heartbreak, and love from those encounters."
With support from The Fader, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Notion Magazine, NME, Wonderland and Radio 1, GRAACE's star continues to rise. Her breakthrough came in 2017 with her feature on Hayden James' platinum-selling single 'Numb'. Following this success, she released her debut EP, 'Self-Sabotage', in 2018, which has since garnered 40 million streams.
'afterimage', a response to her earlier 'Self-Sabotage' EP and the melancholic 'Self Preservation' EP released in 2022, marks GRAACE's next chapter in her musical journey.
