Alt-pop sensations Only The Poets have dropped their eagerly awaited EP, 'One More Night', showcasing the band at their most electrifying. The release cements their signature synth-pop sound while revealing the raw emotion behind their lyrics.
"We've blended our current influences with Brit-pop, experimenting with vocal layers and harmonies," frontman Tommy Longhurst explains. "We always have live shows in mind, aiming for that big, expansive stadium filler sound."
Title track 'One More Night' embodies this spirit, with Tommy reminiscing about lost summer evenings over soaring guitars and pulsating synths. "It's about living in the moment," he says. "Remembering those nights that felt like the best moments of your life."
Produced and mixed by Mark Ralph (RAYE, Years & Years), fan favourite 'Gone By Now' soars with aching vocals and choppy guitars, while the band's self-produced 'I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend' melds brooding guitars and fiery vocals into a mature dark-pop soundscape.
'All This Time', co-written with The Nocturns (Tom Grennan, Cian Ducrot), is another melodic banger that earned them 'Tune of the Week' on Radio 1 and a sold-out EU tour.
The EP's unvarnished honesty shines through in 'It's Okay (Not To Be Okay)', touching on Tommy's past experiences. "I wrote this song longing to hear these words to help with how I was feeling," he explains.
Closing on a euphoric high, 'Change' reflects on past relationships and mistakes, encapsulating the feeling of meeting someone who drives you to become a better person.
Recorded on the road, the EP is a testament to the band's DIY ethos. "We're excited that so much of this EP was done just the four of us," says Tommy.
Only The Poets have rapidly become one of the UK's biggest emerging live acts, their DIY approach taking them from house parties to sold-out 1,600-capacity venues. 2024 has already seen them kick off a massive European tour, with more shows to come before joining Yungblud and Tom Grennan this summer.
