Sydney rockers Kingdom Calm have been kicking up the dust of the local music scene since their explosive 2021 debut. With a string of anthems and a reputation for electric live shows, the three-piece band delivers hard-hitting rock with a distinctly Aussie pub-rock flavour. Now, they're back in perfect form, reshaping the music scene with their blistering new single 'Follow The Leader'.
While not strictly a brand-new song, being a revitalised and reworked version of a demo recorded and released during the uncertain times of covid lockdowns, 'Follow The Leader' feels incredibly relevant in 2024. The band explained, "'Follow the Leader' is essentially a song about power. Originally, the song was based around the bass riff and drum beat that you hear in the introduction. We had some lyrics from another half-written song about an insufferable businessman bragging about his awesome life to anyone who would listen, and realised straight away that they would be the perfect fit for this marching groove."
"As often happens when we rehearse we became side-tracked and ended up playing a completely different upbeat reggae groove that was a world away from what we started with. Someone had the idea to put the two next to each other and we were struck by how well one went into the other… giving a sense of order descending into chaos, never to return," they add.
The track, recorded at Bamm Bamm Wolfgang and mastered by Paul Stefanidis, delivers a potent message about power and authority. From its opening chords, 'Follow the Leader' crackles with electrifying energy. Kingdom Calm's trademark synergy is undeniable - a driving rhythm section sets the stage for intricate guitar work.
