Oakland’s Silver Shores deliver a reflective new single in ‘Spitting Image’

A unique indie project bursting out of Oakland, California, Silver Shores have recently shared their brand-new single ‘Spitting Image’, blending fierce guitar solos with introspective lyrics to create something truly great. An impressive illustration of the band’s poetic style, ‘Spitting Image’ is an emotional rollercoaster that will hold you right on the edge of your seat.

Inspired by bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Fleet Foxes, Slow Pulp, Fruit Bats, and Beach Fossils, Silver Shores formed in 2021 and have delivered a string of impressive indie anthems over the past few years, but none as powerful as ‘Spitting Image’. Combining dueling guitars, thunder percussion, and lyrics that cut like a knife, everything about the single is built to illicit a reaction, and with every listen, it hits a little bit harder.

While the opening minute is a playful jam that sees the band in full swing, it’s the interplay between the melody and lyrics that really makes its mark, immediately drawing you in through lines like “Don’t look away, this spitting image of the other day.” Thematically, the song tackles the hypocrisy of pointing out flaws in others, when we rarely take note of the same flaws in ourselves, making it universally relatable, even if you don’t want to admit to it.

Speaking openly about the single, the band shared, “It's a song that has a bit of a mysterious feel to it from the start, with the onset of the tremolo guitars ringing out and shining through almost ominously and moving along at a slow pace before the outburst of the choruses and bridge/outro. It's a song of reflection, one in which the qualities we criticize in others shines through in ourselves. We hope you'll enjoy it!”

The drums for the single were tracked by George Rosenthal at The Complex in San Francisco, while all other aspects of tracking were done by Silver Shores. The song was mixed by Chris Huges at Stereo Lunch and Joseph Freeman at Freeman Mastering.

Along with the release of the new single, the fourpiece of Andrew Magcale, Ray Donovan, Franco Piras, and Mario Amanzio have recently recorded a live EP at Hyde St. Studios, which is set for release soon. They’re also teasing a new single that’s just finished being mastered, so now is the perfect time to get acquainted.
