New York's own Summerdrive have revealed their new single, 'Shimmer', delivering a stream of retro synths and propulsive percussion. Available now on all major platforms, the single is a gorgeous introduction to the talented trio.
The project of New York-based multi-instrumentalists Jake Stam, Matt Montgomery and Tim Coakley, Summerdrive deliver an intoxicating new single that showcases the bands unique blend of alternative-rock, indie-pop, and 80’s-inspired synthpop.
Speaking about 'Shimmer', the band explained, “The overarching idea of the song is chasing a feeling that has faded, whether you like it or not.” They continued in a statement about the song. “Visiting the places that you’ve been with someone, whether it be a friend or partner, and those places not holding the same meaning as they once did. Ultimately realizing that sometimes it’s out of our control how these things end up.”
You can hear the authenticity of the lyrics throughout the track, but mostly in the chorus, with the line “chasing down the shimmer of an afterglow//driving by the places that we used to go//hoping that I catch the rush”. It is beautifully written and may seem simple at first, but it is undeniably powerful.
Summerdrive (formerly known as Friends At The Falls) made their debut in 2018 with their first EP, 'Wild In Our Ways'. Their sophomore project, 'Be The Change', was released in 2021 and catapulted the band to new heights with over four million cumulative streams. Influenced by their time in New York and Los Angeles, as well as contemporary acts like The Killers, The 1975, Coldplay, and Walk The Moon, the band have found a way to cultivate a sound that’s both nostalgic and timeless.
