Coast Arcade are back! Following the success of their single 'Baited' earlier this year, the Auckland indie rockers have just dropped 'City Limits', an anthem for anyone who's ever felt stuck in a rut and dreamed of something bigger.
Recorded at Big Fan Studios with Clint Murphy (of North Atlas and Enter Shikari fame) and Ryan Smith (known for his work with L.S. Dunes and Smashing Pumpkins) on mixing and mastering duties, 'City Limits' sees the band further refining their signature sound. It's a track packed with the same infectious energy and soaring melodies that made their 2023 EP 'Next To Me' such a hit.
"’City Limits' is an exciting step for us as a band," Coast Arcade shared. "It really solidifies the direction we want to take with our sound, and we're stoked to see how our existing fanbase reacts to it, as well as the new listeners it draws in."
And it's not just the music that's levelled up. The accompanying music video, directed by David Argue in their hometown, perfectly captures the song's message of yearning and escape.
"We feel like this is our best music video yet," the band enthused. "It really captures how we feel when we hear the song and it also shows both the serious and fun side of the band.”
'City Limits' is an undeniable earworm, a song that resonates with that universal desire for something more. It's a feeling Coast Arcade themselves know well, having steadily built a name for themselves since their breakthrough in 2021. Their impressive live shows have seen them share the stage with the likes of Lime Cordiale, Grandson, and The Beths, honing their already tight-knit chemistry as a unit.
Fronted by the captivating Bella Bavin (vocals, guitar), alongside Thom Boynton (drums), Leo Spykerman (bass), and Arlo Birrs (guitar), Coast Arcade are a force to be reckoned with in the Aotearoa indie-rock scene. Their debut EP, 'Next To Me', showcased their knack for crafting vibrant melodies and dynamic arrangements, with singles like 'Surf Club' and the hugely popular 'Highest Heights' (racking up over 200,000 streams) hinting at the band's immense potential.
With 'Baited' reaching #3 on the Hot NZ Singles Chart and earning international radio play, Coast Arcade are clearly on an upward trajectory. 'City Limits' feels like the next logical step in their evolution, and it's a step that's sure to take them to even greater heights.
