Joe Mungovan announces new album 'Sugar, Candy, Lips' and shares new track ‘Cyclone’

Joe Mungovan is wasting no time in getting his 2024 off and running with exciting news. The dynamic multi-instrumentalist and performer has become one of the East Coast’s favourite touring artists, spreading the love and good music off the back of his stunning debut album 'A Flower In The Weeds' in 2021 and in 2023, his vibrant track ‘Stay’.

And with a new year, comes a new chapter – for Joe, this means a new album. Titled 'Sugar, Candy, Lips', the second studio effort from Joe represents a culmination of new inspiration and influences that have filtered into his process; manifesting in a set of beautifully recorded tracks out of his home studio on NSW’s South Coast, as well as The Grove Studios.

Leading this next phase, Joe has given fans a taste of the new album with the release of his latest single, ‘Cyclone’. The song, as Joe describes, is about “mass consumption, overstimulation and our society’s blindness and addiction to it”. Very real content that people can likely relate to, arranged and executed through a musical lens that instead will provide a vibe for any listener, ‘Cyclone’ is the product of a smart knack for songwriting that has met refreshed artistic confidence.

Speaking about the new release, Joe shared, “It's about being overfed in all aspects of life - mentally, emotionally, physically, and literally - and how disconnected our lives have become as a result. In a way, Cyclone is my resistance to the ‘ignorance is bliss’ attitude that is so entrenched in our society and my attempt to reconnect with something simpler.”

The release of ‘Cyclone’ is an exciting jump-off point for Joe as he prepares for his return to stages in a few months. Along with the release of ‘Cyclone’ and then 'Sugar, Candy, Lips' on Friday 15th March, Joe has also announced the tour dates to support the record, dates which will have him on the road along the East Coast this April.

Having cut his teeth on stages alongside names including Gang of Youths, Paul Dempsey, Lime Cordiale, The VANNS and Maddy Jane, Joe has earned fans across a diverse demographic and has consistently grown this base of music lovers following his journey nationwide.
