FELONY. Captures the Chaos of Modernity in Latest Single 'Oh Modernity'

Youth culture always drives change, and FELONY. understands this intrinsically. Few artists have grown up in a world where every action and relationship is exposed and mediated by the internet. FELONY. brings a fresh perspective to pop music, essential in our current moment. Her latest single, 'Oh Modernity', is a taste of her upcoming debut EP, 'Head.Lights.Jump.Start.'

The past 15 months have been explosive for FELONY. The 17-year-old burst onto the scene in 2022, her debut single earning a spot in the Triple J Unearthed High Yearbook and a Queensland Music Award nomination. Soon after, she embarked on a sold-out national tour supporting Selfish Sons. Further Triple J recognition and a lauded Bigsound Festival performance led to her recent single, 'Everyone I Like Wants To Kill Themselves,' entering high rotation on Triple J.

The young artist has shared stages with Foals, Declan McKenna, Griff, Holly Humberstone, and Mallrat, recently playing Laneway Festival in Brisbane. Fresh off an East Coast tour with Pacific Avenue and winning Best Rock Song at the 2024 Queensland Music Awards, FELONY. is currently co-producing her debut EP with Aria Award-winning producers Cody McWaters and Aidan Hogg.

"I was in a time where my life was turned by a massive wave of change," says FELONY. "It all happened at once, out of nowhere, and it really freaked me out. Growing up is scary, and growing apart from people is super scary too, especially when it's your first time experiencing it, like it is mine."

The song's lyrics reflect a downward spiral, set against upbeat electronic music, reflected perfect by inspiration from artists like Madonna, Caroline Polachek, and The Japanese House, masters of the bittersweet pop sound.

"I don't know how to go about life in the 'right' way or the most 'healthy' way, but also, I don't know if anyone does, or if these constructs even exist," she admits. "The struggle of being self-destructive seems pretty universal, so I hope people can understand 'Oh Modernity' and take from it what they need to."
